For Immediate Release:   Rock for a Reason [01/22/11]

Live music and charity combine on Saturday, January 22, 2011, in a performance dubbed “Rock For A Reason,” at Duke Ocean Grill in Tappan, New York.  Featuring a reunion of the renowned “roller rink rock” band, SPIT-ROAST MUPPET, along with a guest appearance by the POLICE PIPES AND DRUMS OF BERGEN COUNTY and a deejay playing music until closing time, the Rock For A Reason show is a one-of-a-kind night for a good cause.

This unique event honors Justin Gerity, the son of a local police officer in northern New Jersey.  Justin has been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a rare genetic disease.  For more information about Justin, please see below.   Rock for a Reason has been organized by a network of friends who hope to raise money for a trust in Justin’s name that will generate awareness about DMD and offset the terribly expensive costs associated with the disease.

Conveniently located on the Rockland / Bergen County border (just 15 minutes from the George Washington & Tappan Zee Bridges), Duke Ocean Grill (37 Route 303, Tappan, NY) is not your ordinary venue – it’s an unforgettable New York City-style experience!  Further, the Holiday Inn of Orangeburg, NY, is offering discount accommodations to patrons of the event with the use of Group Code "DMD".

This is a public event - please help spread the word.  For further information, click on the above flyer.

Please patronize our event sponsors who have donated goods or services to help fight DMD!

Justin Gerity, the young son of Timothy and Angelina Gerity, has been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). He is monitored and treated by the Columbia Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic, at Columbia University Medical Center in New York.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a form of Muscular Dystrophy, which is a broad term used to label gene-related disorders that affect muscles throughout the body. There are more than 20 specific genetic disorders considered to be Muscular Dystrophy.  Most have the same result (a reduction in muscle strength due to weakening and deterioration), but these various types of Muscular Dystrophies are specific to different muscles in the body and different rates of degeneration.  DMD is an X-lined recessive disorder, the most common of the muscular dystrophies and, unfortunately, the most lethal diagnosis of childhood.  DMD occurs at a frequency of 1 in 3,500 male births and affects all cultures.

The devastating muscle breakdown in DMD occurs early in life, as evidenced by muscle pathology from birth and elevated muscle enzymes which are released from degenerating muscles.  Although he remains independently ambulatory, Justin currently has active muscle breakdown and will continue to lose muscle strength and function.

Other than his illness, Justin is your typical boy and he loves the game of baseball.  He is surrounded by a loving family, including his older brother, Brenden, and older sister, Amanda.  He has two sets of loving grandparents, and an abundance of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends always eager to lend a helping hand.

The Gerity family is thankful for the large support network that they are able to rely on.  It is a comfort to them knowing they can count on friends for their support and prayers.

Vested Security Solutions is honored to be a friend of the Gerity family.  Their strength and faith should serve as an inspiration to us all.
